5 Key Questions You Must Ask Before You Choose Your Flooring Company
As in many markets, unscrupulous operators exist who are only interested in one thing… making as much money as fast as possible… and to the exclusion of anyone else’s interests. Consider the following factors before you choose who is the best operator to work on your project:
- How thorough is their assessment of your floor or surface, and how detailed are their recommended actions?
Far too many one-man bands employ a simple “sand it and seal it” mentality, offering a very one dimensional service. Whilst their pricing may initially seem attractive, they are inevitably under pressure to complete the job as fast as possible, so they can move on to the next customer.
- Do they undertake professional risk assessments and follow best-practice work routines?
You need to be certain your chosen contractor will turn up on time, with sufficient resources and manpower to complete your work without delays and disruption. Ask to see their working practices document and
- Will your chosen supplier use the best cleaning and sealing materials, or are they going to cut corners to maximize their profits?

Few people realise that poor sanding can reduce a wood floor’s life by up to 30 years. When it comes to professional sanding, only removing the minimum (less than 1mm) is all that’s required to achieve the best results. This takes real skill and experience. Without professionally trained operatives and exactly the right equipment, it’s easy to get it wrong!
- What happens if you have an issue?
Sometimes things just don’t go according to plan, and you need to be totally confident that your chosen contractor really has your needs at heart. So ask whether they offer any guarantees of their workmanship and their after-sales service. If they don’t, then ask yourself why.
